There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. – Galatians 3:28-29
As Paul is addressing the Galatians legalism he talks about being heirs of God’s promises. This is radical in the thinking of the ancient world: both the empowered (Jew, free, male) and the disempowered (Greek, slave, female) of that day were in the same standing before God. Paul was being clear: the gospel breaks down the barriers and turn outcasts into heirs. This was a major shift in the thinking of the ancient world. May this continue to challenge us today!
