You saw no form of any kind the day the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the fire. Therefore watch yourselves very carefully, so that you do not become corrupt and make for yourselves an idol, an image of any shape, whether formed like a man or a woman, or like any animal on earth or any bird that flies in the air, or like any creature that moves along the ground or any fish in the waters below.

– Deuteronomy 4:15-18 (NIV)

One of the difficulties that the Hebrews had was that God would not allow them create any image that would represent Him. Images would be easier to follow, but when we attempt to limit God to an image we corrupt ourselves, for we use images for our own gain. Yet God had an image that would break the corruption of our souls—Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ revealed the Father in His life, death, and resurrection. The true image of God is one that is alive in Christ!
