While the man held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon’s Colonnade. When Peter saw this, he said to them: “Fellow Israelites, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?

A man who has been lame from birth has just been healed and a crowd is gathering. Peter was quick to point out that this miracle was not based upon the conduct of the disciples, but simply faith in Jesus name. People can act strangely if they believe that our power or godliness is what unleashes God’s power, but Peter teaches us to keep Jesus at the center and not our efforts to be pleasing to God. It can make the difference between a dry performance of religion and an open heaven upon this earth.
