When your days are over and you go to be with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, one of your own sons, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for me, and I will establish his throne forever.

– 1 Chronicles 17:11-12 (NIV)

King David wanted to build a house for God, but God had already chosen David’s son, Solomon, to build it. Sometimes we may anxiously think that we need to fulfill all of God’s purposes in one generation, but God has a longer timeline than we do. There may be things that we want to do that God has apportioned to the next generation, so serve the next generation well. You never know what God has in store for them.
