When we heard this, we and the people there pleaded with Paul not to go up to Jerusalem. Then Paul answered, “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” When he would not be dissuaded, we gave up and said, “The Lord’s will be done.”

What makes the story of the apostle Paul so gripping is that he was not living for comfort. On the contrary, Paul was so committed to God’s purposes that he was ready to die for the cause of Christ. As a result, our pulse quickens as we read of his adventures in the book of Acts. We may not be called to go somewhere to die, but are we living in the dynamics of the Holy Spirit, or have we allowed comfort to lull us into spiritual boredom?
