When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied. – 2 Kings 2:9 (NIV)

Of all the things that Elisha could have asked from his mentor Elijah, he wanted a double portion of his spirit. Elisha wanted the intimacy of Elijah’s relationship with God and the corresponding power that followed. When we get around people who know God there comes a spiritual hunger that becomes a greater force than the desire for wealth or comfort. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
