When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.

– Genesis 3:6 (NIV)

Today’s commentary
by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org

Earlier in this account God looked at all of His creation and called it good, but Adam and Eve thought that it could be better. This thought process has been the perennial problem with humanity: we constantly want something more than what God has given us. Our unrest drives us into patterns of consumption that have disastrous results in our lives. Are we able to receive the peace that God offers to us in obedience, or are we constantly looking for something better?
