When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua, “Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe, and tell them to take up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, from right where the priests are standing, and carry them over with you and put them down at the place where you stay tonight.”

– Joshua 4:1-3 (NIV)

These twelve stones were set up to remind the Israelites of the way that God brought them over the Jordan. We all need reminders of times when God had supernaturally held us up, for many of these moments go by disguised as “good luck” or just favorable circumstances. So when God does something extraordinary, take the time to set up your own “stones”. Whether we need to write a journal entry or a place a memento on our desk or shelf, these items help us when we to face tough times. They remind us that God can do it again.
