When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” – Luke 5:4-5 (NIV)
Peter models for us an important trait: he obeyed the commands of Jesus. Even though Peter was a knowledgeable fisherman, he somehow knew that Jesus had understanding beyond fishing. It is easy to give God the areas that we feel ignorant in, but what about the areas where we think of ourselves as experts? It seems that God is after not only our weaknesses, but our strengths as well. He calls us to obey him in ALL things. Are we willing to humble ourselves and do that?
