Then Solomon said, “The LORD has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud; I have indeed built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever.” – 1 Kings 8:12-13 (NIV)

Even though Solomon had created a temple that was so grand that the glory of the Lord enveloped it in a cloud, this was not meant to last; 500 years later the Babylonians would destroy Solomon’s temple. But this was a shadow of a later event, when the sky became dark while a man hung upon a cross. God was building a place where He would dwell among men forever through Jesus Christ, yet when this temple was destroyed, it opened the door for the glory of the Lord to fill our lives. God has gone beyond buildings and is now building a new temple – the Body of Christ.
