The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”

Think about this— John’s success was based upon how well he could make Jesus known among the Jews. We can get caught up with what others think about us, but John was more concerned about what others thought about Jesus. This is one of the keys toward Christian growth: not that we think less favorably of ourselves, but that we simply think of ourselves less and turn our attention to the One who takes away the sin of the world, including ours.
