The Lord Almighty has sworn, “Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will happen.

– Isaiah 14:24 (NIV)

Isaiah is defiant under Assyrian rule, and he has reason to be so. The Babylonian empire was gaining power and would soon conquer the Assyrians. Things were about to get worse before they became better, but all of these events would set the stage for the coming of Jesus Christ, who would use all of these changes in the progress of the gospel. Isaiah reminds us that God is never surprised when things happen. He has never been thwarted in His plans. His will prevails.
