So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the one who does not condemn himself by what he approves. But whoever has doubts is condemned if they eat, because their eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.

– Romans 14:22-23 (NIV)

In other words, if you can’t do something with a clear conscience before God, don’t do it. We are prone to create rules and regulations that keep others to what we feel are godly standards, but those restrictions ultimately suffocate our souls. Our goal should not be how well we are able to conform to external standards, but the awareness of our faith toward God. The Holy Spirit is more than able to convict us of sin when our hearts are filled with faith toward Him.
