Sacrifice and offering you did not desire— but my ears you have opened— burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require. – Psalm 40:6 (NIV)

The psalmist has a New Testament understanding in an Old Testament time. In the midst of all of the laws and sacrifices, King David realized that God was after a heart that delighted to do His will. Unfortunately, sometimes we get mixed up. We can live with an Old Testament understanding of rules and regulations instead of New Testament grace. So don’t go through religious motions when God is offering you so much more in Jesus Christ. Don’t settle for anything less than a heart that delights in God.
