Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”—

– Ecclesiastes 12:1 (NIV)

Today’s commentary
by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org

Ecclesiastes reminds us that if we look at this world outside of God we end up with cynicism. There is so much about this world that doesn’t make sense that if we allow our life experiences to be the gauge of happiness, we will quickly lose pleasure in everything. That is why the author of Ecclesiastes tells us to remember our Creator, for earthly experience can only be fully enjoyed from heaven’s perspective. This is what keeps us from becoming grumpy as life takes its toll upon us. God is the One who keeps our eyes clear and our soul filled with light.
