People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

Jesus wanted to make sure that his disciples knew that sophistication would never take the place of child-like faith. God loves children, and we lose something when we get too serious. As G.K. Chesterton once wrote, “we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we.” Life is complex, but our heavenly Father wants to take our burdens so that we can skip and laugh again.
