Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.

– John 2:23-25 (NIV)

Today’s commentary
by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org

Sometimes we treat the Holy Spirit like He is a genie—just waiting for the command to manipulate situations to our liking, but God will not entrust Himself to our agendas. He knows what is in all of us, and that should curb us from expecting God to endorse our plans and then be disappointed when things don’t work out our way. The posture of a Christ follower is to surrender our ambitions and seek after His plans instead. He is leading the way, not us.
