Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: “See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”

– Mark 1:43-44 (NIV)

Isn’t it interesting that when Jesus healed people, He would tell them to keep quiet about the miracle? In this story, Jesus has healed a leper and instructs him to show himself to the priest. Why? Lepers were forbidden to enter the temple to worship God. Jesus was more interested in the restoration of this man’s relationship with the Father than He was in using the healed leper as promotional material. Many times we make the miracles of God the end in itself, when the purpose is to be a sign, or a marker pointing to something else. Our testimony is not in the miracle as much as much as coming back into relationship with our heavenly Father.
