In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. – Hebrews 1:1-2 (NIV)

When we read this passage we realize that Jesus was there when the universe was made. This makes Jesus much more than a prophet. The prophets held an important role for the people of God, but Jesus was God’s greatest statement to humanity. He is the One who will inherit all things. Now we can see the importance of the Great Commission, which is when Jesus told his followers to go and make disciples of the nations. Jesus created this earth, He came to redeem this earth, and now is claiming what rightfully belongs to Him.
