In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”

Earlier in this passage Gabriel appears to an elderly priest; now he greets Mary, a young teenager who was probably between thirteen and fifteen years old. Luke’s gospel reminds us that God chooses young and old to accomplish His purposes. Do you feel ignored because of your youth? Be encouraged, for despite the obstacles of institutions, God calls young people to do amazing things. Don’t be afraid and don’t think for a moment that your age hinders you from being used of God.
