“Then the Lord said to me, ‘Go; I will send you far away to the Gentiles.'” The crowd listened to Paul until he said this. Then they raised their voices and shouted, “Rid the earth of him! He’s not fit to live!” – Acts 22:21-22
When the apostle Paul made this statement to his Jewish listeners it was too much for them to bear. They would have to expand their views and accept that God was moving beyond their Jewish cultural borders. This strange new teaching that came from Jesus Christ threatened their very identity as a people. Like the Jews of Paul’s day, we can become very set in our religious ways. Yet the gospel is always expanding beyond our cultural borders to reach the earth. Are we willing to embrace the discomfort of change as this happens? Or will we cling to the systems that we know?
