I said, ‘I have been banished from your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.’

– Jonah 2:4 (NIV)

Today’s commentary
by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org

This is part of the prayer of Jonah from the belly of the fish. Up to this point, Jonah has been running from God. God called Jonah to Nineveh; Jonah went the opposite direction. Yet this story is not as much about Jonah as it is about God. God displays His faithfulness to His people over and over again. Jonah felt banished from God’s sight, but Jonah also knew that his rebellion was not the final word. No matter what you have done or how you feel, remember that through Jesus Christ there is ALWAYS a door to come back to the Father.
