Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?” – Matthew 3:13-14 (NIV)

John asked a very logical question: If Jesus is God’s Son, shouldn’t Jesus be the one baptizing? But Jesus responded to John to the contrary – John was to baptize Jesus so that all that could be fulfilled. What needed to be fulfilled? That Jesus was to live a human life. He was to experience all that we experience, so that He could redeem all of our humanity. Do you have need today? Call upon Jesus, for He knows what it is to feel joy and pain, baptism and the cross. He is uniquely qualified to be the great High Priest before the Father for all of humanity.
