I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

– Galatians 2:20 (NIV)

Paul is making a revolutionary statement here. For the believer who fails and repents, God sees Christ, the Divine substitute for us. The spotless, perfect Son of God has covered our sin. We now see life from a new lens–as those who are loved by God. It takes faith to do this, for we know how deeply we have failed. Yet the gospel calls us to live by this faith and to walk as those who are forgiven and therefore, free to live for God.
