“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.

Mary showed great courage in this statement, for the angel Gabriel had just told her that she was about to become pregnant with the Son of God. As an unwed teenager, this would surely mean a life of disgrace. On top of that Mary was a poor girl from Nazareth, which meant that she probably had no financial means to take care of her child. She had to completely trust that God had chosen her, so He would take care of her. Mary’s story is one of trust in God, even in the midst of overwhelming circumstances.
