According to Jesus, one of the traits of the kingdom of heaven is that it is meant to be mixed throughout the earth. Even though yeast is not the main ingredient of bread, it totally transforms the dough when it is used. This is a good picture of how we are to engage the world around us. God wants to work us into the dough of our work, our neighborhoods, and our cities so that people can rise toward the cross. So our view of God’s work must go beyond the four walls of the church to throughout the earth, for this is the very nature of the Kingdom of heaven.
