God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.'” – Exodus 3:14 (NIV)

When Moses asked how he should explain who God is, God simply said, “I AM”. To know the name of someone was to know something personal about them, and God made sure that His people knew that He would not be limited to their descriptions of Him, but would reveal Himself. It is good to remember that even though we come to God as we are, God is not a projection of our imagination, but He is so different that He is to be discovered. This posture demands that we seek after Him to learn, for in many cases, He will not fit into the shallow stereotypes that we ignorantly create of Him.
