For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged. The spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets. For God is not a God of disorder but of peace—as in all the congregations of the Lord’s people.

– 1 Corinthians 14:31-33 (NIV)

Today’s commentary
by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org

We all are uniquely gifted by God, but that does not mean that we are free agents, simply doing what we want to do in the name of Jesus. The Bible teaches that God sees our gifts relative to others around us and the end result should be peace. Bible teachers should be subject to other Bible teachers, prophets to other prophets. God uses His community to keep his truth peaceful and pure. This is the beauty of God’s house being built with living stones—each bringing order to the other.
