For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

– 2 Peter 1:16 (NIV)

It is important to note that the writers of the New Testament had little personal gain in recording what they saw. To be a Christian was to be an outcast. Many of them were killed for their faith. They were not trying to be famous, they wrote what we now call the New Testament because it happened. As a follower of Jesus, we are not basing our faith upon fairy tales, but eyewitness accounts that came at a high cost.
