For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. – Hebrews 2:17 (NIV)
One of the great mysteries of Christ is that He was fully human, yet fully God. He faced temptation. He faced hunger and pain. He was like us in every way. He is merciful for He has felt our pain, He is faithful for He knows our nature, and He has shown His love by taking our sin upon Himself to satisfy the judgment for our rebellion to God. Jesus Christ is the only bridge between God and man for He is both. This is the mystery that brings us to the Father and keeps us in His hands. Praise be to God!
