For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.

The apostle Paul was basically saying that the power that created the universe is the same power that creates in us a new heart. The Holy Spirit hovers over the chaos of our lives and speaks light where there was once darkness. This is the story of Christmas—that God’s glory has been displayed through Jesus Christ, and the knowledge of Christ can take a heart that is dismayed by sin and turn it into a beacon of hope for others.
