Brothers and sisters, I could not address you as people who live by the Spirit but as people who are still worldly-mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. – 1 Corinthians 3:1-2 (NIV)
It is important to remember that this rebuke was written to Christians who were moving in gifts and great power, but they quickly devolved into factions within the church. It should be sobering to know that we can claim spiritual gifts but still be infants in Christ. The apostle Paul reminds us that maturity is not based upon a display of talent, but our ability to serve each other under the banner of Jesus Christ.
