Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

– Matthew 5:10 (NIV)

Today’s commentary
by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor,, Author of Making Sense of the Bible

There is a difference between being persecuted for being obnoxious or irresponsible and the persecution that Jesus is talking about here. When we make a decision to glorify God by not lying about a product, or making sure that we work an honest days work, or when we hold ourselves that is not popular; we will face persecution. This comes with walking in integrity before God. For those who do so, God has promised his kingdom. This is the stuff of greatness before our Father in heaven.
