Afterward Jesus appeared again to his disciples, by the Sea of Galilee. It happened this way: Simon Peter, Thomas (also known as Didymus), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two other disciples were together. “I’m going out to fish,” Simon Peter told them, and they said, “We’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

Today’s commentary

This account occurs after the death of Jesus. It seems that when the disciples didn’t know what to do, they reverted to what they knew best— for Peter, it was fishing. Yet once a person has been with Jesus, going back to old patterns don’t quite satisfy the way that they used to. As these disciples were about to find out, Jesus had a plan for them that would change their lives. This is no different today, we can go back to old ways, but Jesus offers us a new path to walk; a new way to live.
