Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, contrary to his command.

Prior to this verse, fire came from the Lord and consumed the offering, so the sons of Aaron, the high priest before the Lord, decided to create their own version of that fire and present it as from God – with disastrous results. We have many ways that we try to create our own version of God’s presence, but this passage challenges us to be honest with our spirituality. Sometimes God can’t move in our midst because we keep pretending that He is doing things that are more man made than God breathed.
